Negligent Security

 

Florida has seen too many terrible crimes committed against innocent people staying in hotels, motels, gated communities, businesses, schools, etc.  Over the years, we have successfully represented clients who have been seriously injured because of negligent security measures and we know how to prepare and present these cases.  Our work in this area included one case where a 26 year old lawyer was sound asleep in his hotel room when the son of the manager stole the master key and broke into the room and killed him while he was sleeping so that he could steal his car to visit his girlfriend out of state.  That case focused on the lack of proper key control and was successfully tried to a jury in Ft. Myers.  In another case, an unknown assailant broke into the ground floor room of a young woman staying in a motel and raped her.  The assailant was never caught but we were able to prove that the lock on the sliding glass door was defective and that the motel operator tried to fix it after the rape occurred to cover up their negligence.  That case settled before trial.
